3 benefits

To Strength Training

Strength training will always be an ongoing debt between everyone. Is it beneficial? Will you look bulky? Shouldn’t I just do cardio to lose weight?

The answer will always be yes, you should be strength training. Below are 3 benefits that I hope will convince you.

One of the top fitness goals for the general population is to look leaner.

Honestly, I hear all the time “I want Michelle Obama arms” or “ I just want to look shredded.”

Both of these things are entirely possible if you incorporate strength training at least 2-3x per week.

This leads me to benefit number one: Builds Lean Muscle Tissue.

If you want to look leaner than you need to build lean muscle tissue. Aka you need to build muscle in general. Building muscle comes from training the muscle under resistance.

We need to add a challenge to the muscle in order to become better, similar to life.

Following the same concept of resistance challenges the muscle, it also adds force to bones. This force helps bones to become stronger under that same stress.

Probably one of the most influential benefits from strength training is that it increases your metabolism.

How you ask?

As you are increasing your lean muscle tissue, you are increasing your resting metabolic rate.

Your resting metabolic rate is the number of calories required by your body to to perform basic functions. Lean Muscle burns more calories at rest than fat. Which means that you are improving even when you are not actively working out.

A study from the University of New Mexico found that muscle is responsible for 20% of the calories burned. While fat is only responsible for 5% of calories.

If strength training is a new concept to you then I’d love to talk with you. It can be really scary or even intimidating to try something new. But as a coach, I want to walk along side of you to help you feel more confident in the process.
